Suitability of a candidate: Artists must be able to cover their travel and living expenses.
Residency provides: Private furnished apartment with everything necessary included and atelier area connected to the beforementioned apartment. Since the residency is in the same building with Rüki Gallery, it is also possible to use the gallery, under the conditions that the room is free at that moment. Additional possibilities: cooperation with Viljandi Culture Academy (metal work, native crafts, performing arts, music, etc.), Kondas Centre (a rich collection of outsider art), Viljandi Art School and other institutions operating in Viljandi County.
Cost: The fee depends on the time period and other conditions.

Description of residency: Rüki Residency is located 160 km from Tallinn in Viljandi. The house was built in the second half of the 19th century and freshly renovated in 2022/2023. The residency began operating on June 1, 2023. It is a meeting place for creative people, artists, musicians, writers, etc. to make their art and also to show it to the audience. Residency is managed by the Rüki Residency MTÜ and the creative environment provides accommodation and workspaces for creators, if necessary supporting them in organising public events, exhibitions, workshops, etc.
Viljandi is a very peaceful and inspiring environment for creative activities, which allows focusing and moving away from metropolitan noise. Rüki Residency is located in the heart of the city of Viljandi and everything necessary is close at hand and there is no direct need to travel by car. Tallinn is about 2 hours by train and Tartu about 1 hour by bus.
The minimum period of residency is 1 week and the maximum is 2 months. According to the agreement, the artist has the opportunity to organize a workshop, an artist talk or other cultural event, for example exhibit one’s work to the audience on the site, etc.
By prior agreement, it is possible to stay in the residency with a partner and/or family. Bringing pets is also by agreement.

If you are selected for a residency at Rüki residency, you will receive an official confirmation. With this confirmation you can apply for financial support from (e.g) the Cultural Endowment of Estonia or art organization you are connected to.
Rüki residency is a member of LOORE (Estonian Creative Residencies Network).
