"Mind Notes" by Eiko Ojala

Internationally acclaimed illustrator and artist Eiko Ojala's first solo exhibition Mind Notes, brings into focus a lesser-known aspect of his artistic practice. The exhibition expands Ojala's distinctive visual language beyond its illustrative function, exploring the relationships between space, form, and psychological states. The exhibition is curated by Lilian Hiob-Küttis.

At the centre of the series is the human figure, surrounded by geometric planes and forms that evoke institutional or strictly defined interior spaces. The bodies appear to sink, bend, or be pressed against surfaces that simultaneously support and restrict their movement.

Ojala is known for his digital collage technique, which gives his images a sense of materiality, combining the qualities of relief, paper cut-outs, and sculpture. In this series, the emphasis shifts from narrative representation toward an examination of how environments and surrounding spaces silently organize bodies, direct movement, and shape our inner worlds through invisible systems.

Eiko Ojala (b. 1982) is an internationally acclaimed illustrator whose work regularly appears in leading newspapers and magazines across Europe and the United States. His creative process revolves around the exploration of form, with a particular focus on light and shadow. Ojala strives to keep his illustrations as minimal and carefully considered as possible, combining exceptional craftsmanship with clear, inventive ideas.

The exhibition is supported by the Estonian Cultural Endowment.
